Alumni Reunion: June 8

Alumni and friends of the department are invited to join us at the History & Political Science / History & Government Reunion, held in conjunction with Daemen's Alumni Celebration on June 8, 2019, on Daemen's campus.

5:30 p.m. | Meeting & Department Tour
Meet at the Duns Scotus, Room 139 to tour the department's new office suite and meet the faculty before you head over to your reunion.
6:00 p.m. | History & Political Science/ Government Reunion
Connect with faculty, enjoy food and drinks, and celebrate with your classmates at our tent party. Meet at the Daemen Front Lawn, located in front of the RIC. Live music by Erickson Acoustic: Ashley & Dan Erickson ’07. This gathering includes a drink ticket and dinner.

Alumni Update

ALEX MARKS NEVADA LAS VEGAS STATE SENATE
Alexander Marks (2008, Political Science) has declared his candidacy for
statthe Nevada State Senate's 18th District.

Alexander Marks, who received his B.A. in Political Science from Daemen College in 2008, and his J.D. from the Massachusetts School of Law in 2011,  is running for the Nevada State Senate (Senate District #18).  A native of Las Vegas, Nevada, Marks currently serves as general counsel for a Las Vegas based tourism and entertaining corporation.  Prior to that, Marks was the Director of Government Affairs for the Arizona Students' Association. Higher Education, and related issues of access and affordability, are among the major policy issues on which his campaign is focused. Marks' candidacy has received the endorsement of the Nevada State Democratic Party organization.  Marks credits his experience at Daemen as being instrumental to making his dream to run for public office a reality.

2015 G.O.L.D. Award Recipient Stephanie Foreman (Political Science, 2006)


Making a Difference 

Stephanie Foreman, 2015 Graduate of the Last Decade Award Winner 
On November 3, 2015, Stephanie Foreman (2006, Political Science) was recognized as the 2015 Daemen College Graduate of the Last Decade (G.O.L.D.) at the annual Distinguished Alumni Award Ceremony. Accepting the honor, Stephanie spoke of the lessons she derived from her experience as an undergraduate political science major at Daemen College, including making the most of every leaning opportunity.

Stephanie is a financial professional at Prudential Financial and the founding president of the Buffalo Urban League Young Professionals (BULYP). The distinguished alumni profile summarizes her many accomplishments:

Under Stephanie’s leadership, BULYP has been recognized from a number of different individuals and organizations, including the MLK Community Service Award from City of Buffalo Mayor Byron Brown, Erie County Legislature Proclamation presented by Rep. Barbara Miller-Williams and, most notably, Outstanding National Rookie Chapter of the Year at the 2014 National Urban League Conference Young Professionals Summit. Some of Stephanie’s other affiliations include Member of the Board of Directors for the Buffalo Urban League, Field Advisory Council for Prudential, Secretary for the Judges Row Block Club Association, Mentor for the Youth Entrepreneurial Program, Member of the Amherst Chamber of Commerce and Member of the group Women in Networking. Stephanie has also received numerous awards and accolades for her work, including being a recipient of the CHANGEMAKERS 30 Under 30 Award in 2014, Million Dollar Roundtable for Prudential Insurance in 2011 and 2012, Life Concierge for Prudential Insurance in 2012 and 2013, Masters Council for Prudential Annuities in 2012 and 2014 and the Women Touching the World Award in 2015.

Stephanie is the third graduate of the History and Political Science department to win this award in the last five years. Wayne Brown (History & Government, 2003) and McKenzie Higgins (Political Science, 2009) were honored as recipients of the G.O.L.D. award in 2010 and 2014, respectively. Wayne Brown founded a charity specializing in support and information for patients with rare diseases and is author of the book, Alone in My Universe: Struggling with a Rare Disease in an Unsympathetic World. McKenzie Higgins graduated from Western Michigan University - Thomas Cooley School of Law and is presently an Human Resources Compliance Specialist for M&T Bank in Buffalo. Both Wayne and McKenzie were on hand to congratulate Stephanie and welcome her into the community of Distinguished Alumni Award recipients.

What can you do with a History or Political Science Major?
Our graduates have embarked on a wide variety of successful career paths, including graduate study in international relations, law, law enforcement, and public service. Their collective success demonstrates the value of the History and Political Science degrees and a broad-based, liberal arts education. Our majors are making a crucial difference in their community and the world as models and agents for positive change.

Alumni Updates


Graduates of the History & Political Science Department at Daemen are engaged in a wide variety of professional careers. 


James Felicita
 (2005, Political Science)
James Felicita (2005, Political Science, Pre Law and Criminal Justice Minor) spent several years working in law enforcement and as a deputy with the the Ontario County Sheriff's Office.  He is currently completing his Master's degree in Mental Health Care Counseling and works in Clifton Springs, New York as an acute care coordinator and care manager for individuals suffering from mental health issues, substance abuse problems, and/or chronic homelessness. As part of his responsibilities, James coordinates with a variety of health care providers, governmental agencies and legal services, to ensure that those in need receive proper treatment, care and services as they transition to outpatient services or are discharged.





Saladi Shebule (2012, Political Science) is now working as a Community Organizer for Citizen Action of New York, a non-profit political organization that fights for social, racial and economic justice. Saladi is also the President of the Somoli Bantu Community Organization of Buffalo, a group which "unites, educates, empowers, and advocates for the Somali Bantu refugees and immigrants in Buffalo, New York."




Tyler Threehouse (2010, Political Science) and Timothy S. Rentschler (2010, History and Government: Adolescent Education) are among the 2014 graduates of the the University at Buffalo School of Law.
